COR / SECOR

COR / SECOR certification creates a proactive workplace health and safety culture and reduces the risks and costs associated with workplace incidents.

There are almost 11,000 active Certificate of Recognition (COR) and Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR) holders in Alberta, almost half of which were achieved through the ACSA.

A COR / SECOR shows that the employer’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) has been evaluated by a certified auditor and meets provincial standards established by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

Other benefits of COR / SECOR include:

  • Creating a proactive workplace health and safety culture;
  • Reducing the risks and costs associated with workplace incidents;
  • Lowering WCB rates and qualifying a company for WCB PIR refunds; and
  • Improving the overall efficiency at your work site.

Maintaining a COR / SECOR ensures the ongoing review of an employer’s Health and Safety Management System so that gaps can be identified and corrected. It also provides employers with an Alberta Government-issued certificate, recognizing their efforts in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace. And, of course, COR / SECOR qualifies employers for WCB premium refunds of up to 20 per cent!

To qualify for the SECOR program your company cannot have more than ten employees. Included in this number are all staff covered under your WCB account (for example this includes owners, managers, clerical or administrative staff, part-time workers, temporary staff, family members and volunteers.)

Lower your WCB premiums

You have a big impact on the the premiums you pay.  Employers with good safety performance and return-to-work programs earn lower premium rates.  Reduce your premiums through programs that create safer workplaces, encourage injury prevention and help get injured workers back on the job quickly and safely
